November data is now live and available in Compete PRO! Black Friday made a huge splash last month as sites like blackfriday.com, and bfads.net both finished on top of our Fast Movers list! If you look back at our November Fast Movers list from last year, similar sites finished in the top 10, and it seems as though consumers are becoming savvier in knowing exactly where to look to find the best deals all in one place.
While we noticed several retail sites making noise around Black Friday, two sites in particularly topped our list in November: kmart.com, and toysrus.com. For the month of November, Toysrus.com increased +105% in unique visitors month-over-month (MoM). It’s also interesting to note that they increased their paid search presence +185% MoM. When looking at kmart.com, we noticed a similar pattern of almost +85% growth MoM in UVs, and paid search referral growth of over +109%. What we can gather from this data is that getting your brand message out in front of consumers on the search engine results page is particularly important during the holiday season.
What’s also interesting to note among these brands is that the females accounted for over 62% of the total demographic for each of these sites. While their growth was substantial from October to November, they actually experienced a decline in UVs, year-over-year (YoY) – with kmart.com decreasing roughly -19.4%, and toysrus.com decreasing -8.9%.
Another hot topic in November was in the UFC world, as we noticed mmajunkie.com finishing in our Fast Movers list. This can likely be attributed to the buildup around the Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey fight as well as the coverage surrounding the unexpected KO of Rousey. On top of that, terms including one or both fighter’s names accounted for over 18% of search referrals to mmajunkie.com in the last three months. Aside from this high-profile event, there were also 6 other “title fights” in the month of November.
Among other trends, we noticed sites like healthcare.gov, techcrunch.com, and gamefaqs.com all earned a spot on our Fast Movers List – likely due to open enrollment, electronic consumer goods, and the launch of some cutting edge video games all falling last month, respectively.
