Sylvester Stallone being found dead at his Los Angeles home at age 69 is a celebrity death hoax. There is no truth to a scam message that the Rocky actor had passed away. Rather, this celebrity death hoax originated in August 2016 with the false report that the Expendables actor had died.
Where did this celebrity death hoax originate? In September 2016, several Facebook users came across a fraudulent message claiming that Stallone was found dead at his home in Los Angeles.
The Facebook message then linked to a clickbait web site known for creating and sharing celebrity death hoaxes. This web site’s list of celebrity death hoaxes include ones for Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, Jaden Smith, Jim Carrey, Angelina Jolie and John Cena.
According to Snopes, the web site spreads misinformation in an attempt to bait people into giving away their information. The scam works by using a headline like Sylvester Stallone found dead! and then those who clicked on the link are greeted with a pop-up asking for permission to view their personal information.
Here are some reactions on social media
Stallone is not dead as he was recently reported to be visiting NBC’s hit drama, “This Is Us” in its upcoming second season. Stallone is going to guest as Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) co-star in the movie he’s filming at the start of the season.
At the end of last season, Kevin scored a big acting job in a film directed by Ron Howard, who had a cameo in the show. This season will see the character in production on the project and also working to rebuild his relationship with is ex, played by actress Alexandra Breckenridge.
Additionally, it would be national news if Stallone really had passed away, and so far “news” stories about his alleged death are all connected to one malicious web site. TMZ photographed the actor and asked him about death rumors on Sept. 21, 2016 as he was having dinner with wife Jennifer Flavin.
